It depicts the adventures of various characters “a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away”. The first Star Wars movie was released in 1977 and it introduced us to many unforgettable characters including Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, and Obi-Wan Kenobi as well the two droids, R2-D2 and C-3PO.

The original movie was later renamed Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope so the first movie was intended to be the first part of the middle series of a trilogy of trilogies. George Lucas had ambitious plans. The sequel to A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back was released in 1980, and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi was released 3 years later in 1983.

In 1999 Star Wars was revived with the first in a new trilogy called Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace which gave us some origin stories and introduced a few new characters like Qui‑Gon Jinn, Padmé Amidala, Darth Maul, and Jar Jar Binks. It was followed by Attack of the Clones in 2002 and Revenge of the Sith in 2005.

In 2012, George Lucas sold Star Wars to Disney who has since released the Force Awakens, the first movie in the third trilogy which is to be followed by The Last Jedi which is expected to be released in 2017 and one more as of yet untitled movie for Episode IX. In 2016, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was released, which is a standalone movie that is set just before A New Hop. It introduced a host of new characters like Jyn Erso,  Baze Malbus, Cassian Andor, Chirrut Imwe, and the robot K-2SO.
